Why do I need a bankruptcy appraisal?

When you file bankruptcy, you are required to show the value of your assets in court. A real estate appraisal by a professional appraiser is the only official means of showing the value of your home and property in court.

What kind of appraisal will I need? Is a BPO (Broker Price Opinion) okay?

To be taken seriously in court, you should have a full, interior/exterior complete appraisal. A BPO is not an appraisal at all, but a real estate broker’s opinion of what a house is worth. Financial institutions do not even regard BPOs as valuations, and it is illegal to make a loan using a BPO.
